Happy Travels Pam and Welcome Damian!

We farewell Pam Margetic who has completed her tenure as Tourism Manager.

Pam did a wonderful job caretaking the business from October 2008 until May 2009. She has headed off on a new international adventure. We wish her well and look forward to seeing her around the place again from time to time.

Her replacement as of the beginning of June is our new Tourism Operations Manager Damian FitzPatrick.

The youngest of five boys, Damian hails from the South Western beachside suburbs of Adelaide in South Australia. He developed a love of the bush as a youngster on family holidays in the Mid North of the state and Kangaroo Island. He took up adventure bushwalking and orienteering in high-school, quickly becoming an avid environmental conservationist.

By his late teens he was heavily involved with running summer camps and day trips for disadvantaged youth through the Society of St Vincent De Paul, spending 8 years at the Society as a volunteer.

In 1997 He won South Australia’s Taxi Driver of the Year Award, and began a worldwide working holiday adventure. Travelling through Africa, Europe and America, his tour lasted 5 years before returning to Adelaide in 2003.

Since returning to Australia he has guided guests through many of Australia’s coastal and inland national parks, islands, wine regions and outback deserts. He spent a year making wine in the vine filled valleys of McLaren Vale south of Adelaide, and has chauffeured numerous distinguished faces through his home town. Now 36, he is relishing his new role at Riverside:

“It’s great after all my travelling to be resting in one spot. I know exactly how all the weary travellers that come here for respite feel! I enjoy all of the smiling faces that pass through here, there is an unmistakeable charm about the place. It’s great sharing my knowledge of the bush and native animals with people while they’re up close and personal to a kangaroo or an emu, or sharing a glass of wine and a yarn just watching a big red sunset. I’m looking forward to making people’s stay here even more of a happy experience as time goes on.”
